Killer Whale Drawing

How to Draw A Killer Whale. Our oceans are filled with many types of creatures, large and small. These creatures usually fall into the predator and prey categories, and there can sometimes be some grey area between these categories.

Things are pretty black and white for the killer whale, as it’s known to be one of the most efficient apex predators in the animal kingdom.

They are also one of the most impressive-looking marine creatures, and that can make learning to draw a killer whale fun!

If you are interested in learning how to do this, we recommend reading this tutorial.

How to Draw A Killer Whale

Step 1

We’ll begin this killer whale drawing guide by drawing the creature’s face and dorsal fin.

The killer whale generally has a fairly round body, so we use a lot of curved lines in this image.

First, use some rounded lines to create the killer whale’s head. The top of the head extends inward to create a fairly pointed mouth, as shown in the reference image.

Next, use more rounded lines to create the lower part of the killer whale’s head. The next thing to draw is a large, rounded pectoral fin extending under the body.

Finally, draw the first lines for the large dorsal fin on top of the body and move on to the next step.

Step 2

In this second step of your killer whale drawing, you will finish the outline for the rest of the body.

First, tense another pectoral fin at the body’s command to compare the other.

Next, draw a fairly wavy line backwards from this fin for the killer whale’s belly, and then you can draw another long, rounded line for the back after you’ve completed the dorsal fin.

Finally, complete this step by drawing the tail fin on the end of the orca, then continue to step 3.

Step 3

You’ve completed the outline drawing, and now we can add interior details for the killer whale.

First, draw the bottom part of the mouth and add a row of teeth to this bottom row. After drawing, add a small shape in the face outline for the killer whale’s eye.

To finish this third step, we’ll add minor line detail to the whale’s face and body to give its body shape a little more dimension.

Step 4

Continuing the previous step of this killer whale drawing, we will add more details to the body and fins.

These details will be subtle, but they will be very helpful in adding even more dimension to the creature. Add some lines along the outlines of the pectoral fins and caudal fins.

Then you can also add some curved line details in the middle of the killer whale’s body. Once we’ve drawn all these details, we’re ready for the finishing touches in the next step.

Step 5

Killer whales are known not only for their hunting skills and intelligence but also for their distinctive markings.

We’ll add these body markings in this step of our how-to-draw killer whale guide, and this will prepare you for the final step, where you have to colour your creation!

First, add a rounded shape with sharp edges near the killer whale’s eye. Next, we draw rounded curved lines near the animal’s face, back and abdomen.

This helps create the types of shapes that are common in killer whales. Once you’ve drawn those details, you can add elements of your own!

It might be fun to draw a sea background, and then you could add more killer whales or other sea creatures that you might like.

Step 6

Are you ready to finish this killer whale drawing in this final step of the guide? As mentioned above, you will see how to colour your creation to complete it in this step.

Killer Whale Drawing

Killer whales have a simple black-and-white binary colour scheme, and while they may not be particularly colourful, they still have a distinctive look!

Even though they have two main colours, you can still use different shades of black for more body definition. We used light beige tones for the white portions to make it a bit more dynamic.
