To enter most countries, you must first obtain a visa. In fact, if you plan to attend the any event in United Arab Emirates (UAE) and are from the United Kingdom, you will need to pay for a tourist visa to enter the country. Similarly, depending on your country of origin, you will almost certainly require a visa to enter the United Arab Emirates legally. Applying for a visa can be a complicated process because there are numerous visas, each of which allows you to enter the United Arab Emirates for varying periods of time and for varying purposes.

We here have compiled a list of highly important things as a starting point for people looking to apply for a visa in order to enter the United Arab Emirates.

Need of Visa

Citizens of some countries are allowed to enter the United Arab Emirates without a visa or obtain one upon arrival, while others have to get it before they travel. Nationals of some countries who have a diplomatic or service passport are also exempt from a United Arab Emirates tourist visa or eligible for a United Arab Emirates Visa On Arrival.

UAE Entry Permit

If you require a visa to enter the country, you must obtain the UAE Entry Permit. Depending on the reason for your trip, the validity period varies.

Prior to your leaving, it is the responsibility of your sponsor to obtain an entry permit from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA). The duration of your stay in the UAE with an entry permission is determined by the reason for your trip.

  • If you are traveling in transit, you will be given an entry permit (transit visa) valid for up to 48 or 96 hours for example 48 Hours Transit Visa.
  • If you come in as a tourist, your entry permission is only good for 30 days, hence you would be given a 30-day tourist visa.
  • Your entry permit, for instance, a 60 Days Dubai Visa Within the Country, is valid if you are entering for employment purposes for up to 60 days.

Visa Requirements

  • You need a number of documents to back up your application for a visa to the UAE, including:
  • Passport photocopies for both you and your sponsor. Validity of your passport must be at least six months.
  • Photocopies of the pertinent pages from the passport. You might not even need to send your original passport in some circumstances. You can submit copies of the pertinent passport pages (or all the pages on your passport).
  • Photographs the size of a passport, as required by the UAE for visa photos.
  • Confirmed round-trip ticket or a ticket for further flights. The ticket must be from the airline through which you are applying.
  • Evidence of lodging, such as your hotel.
  • Evidence of UAE travel medical insurance purchase
  • A letter from you describing the visit’s goals and duration
  • Proof of your country’s lawful residency. This only applies if you don’t have citizenship in the nation in which you now reside.

If a host is present then the visa requirements would be as follows:

  • Evidence of your relationship to the host
  • Evidence of host’s UAE residency permit or Emirates ID
  • Certified copy of host’s employment contract or salary certificate
  • Evidence of prior travel

Any further paperwork can be needed by the relevant Dubai/UAE visa issuing authorities.

Visa for GCC nationals

While Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC nationals) are free from the need for a visa, residents of any GCC nation are also entitled to a streamlined online application process if they are traveling with GCC.
